模具在淬火冷却时应注意四个方面的问题。分别是冷却介质问题、冷却设备问题、模具表面覆盖层问题和工人操作技术问题。

冷却介质问题主要是如何选择合适的冷却介质。目前常用的冷却介质有13大类,分别是空气、水、油、盐浴、铅浴、碱浴、无机盐水溶液、有机化合物水溶液、复合盐水溶液、复合有机化合物水溶液、复合油、矿物颗粒、金属制品。如何选择冷却介质需根据模具的材料、模具的大小和模具技术要求以及模具淬火工艺要求来确定。

冷却设备问题即为模具冷却提供各种服务的设备问题,它包括为冷却介质提供相应容器、输送设备、辅助设备以及测试设备等存在的隐患问题。这些设备存在的隐患问题,在热处理生产之前需要,以免影响模具生产,更要避免由此而导致模具出现质量缺陷。

模具表面覆盖层问题关系到模具的淬火质量,除特殊要求外,模具在被冷却之前应尽快表面覆盖层,以避免出现模具表面硬度低且有大量软点或模具表面出现大量软点或模具表面硬度低现象。譬如盐浴加热时,更设法去掉模具表面的熔盐,提高模具的冷却能力,保证淬火组织。
