冷作模具钢在作业时.由于被加工材料的变形抗力比较大,模具的作业部分接受很大的压力、弯曲力、冲击力及冲突力。因而,冷作模具的正常报废原因一般是磨损.也有因断裂、崩力和变形超差而提前失效的。

因而要求具有更高的耐磨化模具作业时接受冲压力大.又由于形状杂乱易于发生应力会集,所以要求具有较高的耐性;模具尺度大、形状杂乱.所以要求较高的淬透性、较小的变形及开裂倾向性。
Therefore, it is required to have a higher wear resistance, and the die can accept large impact pressure when working. Because the shape is disordered and easy to cause stress convergence, it is required to have high resistance; the die has large scale and disordered shape, so it requires high hardenability, small deformation and cracking tendency.
总之,冷作模具钢在淬透性、耐磨性与耐性等方面的要求要较刃具钢高一些.而在红硬性方面却要求较低或基本上没要求(由于是冷态成形),所以也相应形成了一些适于做冷作模具用的钢种.
In a word, the requirements of hardenability, wear resistance and durability of cold working die steel are higher than those of cutting tool steel, while the requirements of red hardness are lower or basically not required (due to cold forming), so some suitable steels for cold working die have been formed.
